They Don't Know

5/17/2012

It was such a little thing
A glance as a stranger passed
A moment's reflection it was
An image in a looking glass.
But in the way of romance
We both took the second look
And started a love affair
Like those found in a book.

My friends advised me
"Go slow. Don't risk your heart."
But somehow I was incomplete
Whenever we were apart.
So, we ignored the warnings
And fell into that kind of love
That fell on us like gentle rain
From a guiding force above.

They don't know the person
Who means so much to me
The single minded person
Of care and honesty.
They don't feel the trust I feel
That once in a lifetime thing
Fills our world with gladness
And makes me want to sing.

I am not some kind of infant
Who hasn't lived at all.
I have understood the loneliness
I've heard the wild side call.
So, I never hesitated when
I looked into your eyes.
Those caring friends who warned me
Just could not realize.

They don't know the person
Who means so much to me
The single minded person
Of care and honesty.
They don't feel the trust I feel
That once in a lifetime thing
Fills our world with gladness
And makes me want to sing.
